RESTORATIVE CARE

Dental Fillings

Our goal is to prevent our patients from getting cavities. However, there may come a time where we have to remove tooth decay and place a filling to restore the shape and contour of the tooth.

At our office, we only use tooth-colored fillings at our office, also known as composite resins. These fillings have the ideal properties to provide normal chewing function and with proper homecare and oral hygiene, these fillings can last many, many years!

Composite resins also have advantages over the older metal fillings that used to be the standard such as:

The ability to flex: Silver fillings are very rigid and don’t have any flexure properties. As a result, the natural tooth structure around the silver filling tends to take more punishment over the years due to the natural ability to flex.

Micro-mechanical bonding: Metal fillings are placed in a way that creates mechanical retention so that they won’t fall out. Tooth colored fillings rely on micro-mechanical bonding which relies on specific chemicals that penetrate the tooth to create a stronger, longer lasting bond.

Aesthetics: Composite resins offer superior aesthetics. With numerous shades available to us, we can match these resins to your natural tooth color so that when you smile or laugh, the fillings will not be noticeable!

If you have metal fillings and are unhappy with the appearance, ask us about how easy it is to have those fillings replaced!
